Hondata Heatshield Intake Manifold Gasket K24Z7

The Honda/Acura K24Z7 (09-13 TSX, 2012-2015 Civic SI, 2013+ ILX) Heatshield is a replacement intake manifold gasket made from special high temperature plastic, designed to insulate the intake manifold from the cylinder head.

Hondata has developed a special high temperature insulating gasket which replaces the stock intake gasket. The gasket along with bypassing several heat sources significantly reduces the transfer of heat from the head to the intake and incoming air giving you up to 5% more power.

Turbocharged cars often use an aluminum intercooler to cool the air compressed by the turbo. The intake manifold is also made of aluminum but because it is heated by the head from combustion and coolant, works in reverse to an intercooler by heating the intake air by as much as 50° C.

For every 3.3 °C (5° F) rise in intake temperature, air density drops 1%. The hotter the air, the less fuel the computer injects to compensate for reduced oxygen.  Around town, testing has shown an average drop of around 10 degrees C which is good for around 3 percent power increase. 

The Honda manifold is heated in up to 5 places. From the head, the interior heating takeoff hose, the cold idle valve, the idle control valve and the throttle body heater. The Heatshield gasket kit contains an insulating gasket, and installation instructions.

The graph above shows the results of installing the Heatshield gasket and bypassing the throttle body heating and idle control valve heating. If you examine a Type R intake manifold you will find that most sources of water heating are removed. Further temperature drops are possible when in addition the interior heating hose is blocked. What the graph shows, is that as you open the throttle, the intake temperature drops slowly as it cools the intake. When you descend a hill with the throttle closed or drive around town on a light throttle the temperature climbs quickly. It takes a good 15-20 seconds for the temperature to drop again when you open the throttle. So, if you start your 1/4 mile drag with a hot intake manifold - you are only starting to develop maximum power near the end of the run when the intake has been cooled. The Heatshield gasket kit gives you 4-5% more power immediately by lowering the intake temperature.

• ECU component/hardware failure due to faulty manufacturing.
• Wire harness failure due to incorrect construction.
• Product failure due to a manufacturing or assembly problem.
• Outside company products. We will handle the hassle of shipping your product back to the manufacturer for warranty processing. Let us replace your product for you and we will deal with the warranty process with the manufacturer later.

What is NOT covered under warranty:

• ECU failure due to improper vehicle wiring (ie: ECU component fries due to sensors being connected incorrectly, low resistance fuel injectors being used without a resistor box, ROM chip being installed backwards by user, customer attempts to modify ECU in ANY way other than intended, etc.)
• Product being used in a way other than the intended use.
• Rear "warranty void if removed" sticker on ECU has been removed or altered.
• Failed, shorted, or corroded ECU board due to water damage.
• Any and all outside labor charges associated with removing and replacing product or diagnosing product failure.
• Wire harness failure due to improper use or rough handling.
• Cosmetic variances from manufacturing (ie: ECU lid has variation in powder coat texture or color within acceptable limits, wire harness color variations within acceptable limits).

Many times, we can help you with the problem and determine what is being done incorrectly or how to configure the product properly to restore correct operation. If after we discuss the issues you are experiencing we determine that your product may need warranty replacement or inspection we will instruct you how to return it to us. Please note that we test EVERY ECU, EVERY ECU package, and wire harness components on our state-of-the-art testing equipment for complete proper operation before packaging and shipping to customers. PLEASE verify ALL wiring, installation, software settings, etc. are correct BEFORE contacting us for warranty repair/replacement.
